Trophy wall
Trophy wall
The biggest fish our anglers have landed — each at its real size, beside an angler and the world record, with an estimate of its age.
The wall is empty for now. The first big fish anyone measures will hang here.
How is the age estimated?
Fish grow all their lives: fast when young, slowly as they near their species' ceiling. Scientists describe that with the von Bertalanffy growth curve, fitted from fish aged by counting the rings in their ear bones. We run that curve backwards to estimate an age from a fish's length. Two fish of the same age grow differently with water temperature and food, so the answer is a range — and for fish near their species' ceiling it is given as "at least".
